Streets and commons

print

The 700-meter long street of Queen Eufemia will be opened for traffic in 2013, and it will find its pivotal place as the district’s sole boulevard with shops, cafés, tramways and bus connections. Altogether, there will be seven commons in Bjørvika. These public places will contribute in creating open connections to existing city districts.

The walkway from the Station Commons connecting Bjørvika with Oslo Central Station is already finished. This commons will probably be the preferred route for pedestrians on their way to or from the new city district. Starting west going east, this is the planned program of completion for the commons:

  • The Castle Commons: Planned for 2014.
  • The Opera Commons: Planned for 2014.
  • The Aker River Commons: Southern part will be finished in 2013. The northern part depends on the plans for the new Munch Museum.
  • The Station Commons: Northern part will be completed in the lapse of 2011. On the south side, the progress is also here depending on the plans for the new Munch Museum.
  • The small strait of Bispekilen: Completion estimated in 2016.
  • The King’s Slope: Finished in 2016 at the earliest, but no specific estimate has been made.
  • The lo Commons: Presumed completed by the end of 2016, but no specific estimate has been made.

During 2012, The Opera Street, the road that passes the Opera House, will be coupled westwards with Tollbugata. Early 2012 will mark the beginning of the work of the seaside esplanade along the area called Langkaia. In Bispekilen, the work with the seaside esplanade will run through both 2015 and 2016.
